My Career

In Week 8, Room 7 had Career week. I had to choose what Career
Pathway I wanted for when I grow up. I chose to be a
Painter/Artist. A Painter or and Artist, is a person who paints as
a form of self-expression.

I chose to be a Painter/Artist because I hear my friends and
family say that my artwork is good. And, you can express your
feelings and thoughts through art. Sometimes artists want to
express their feelings and thoughts, so they put their feelings
and thoughts in their art, like Edvard Munch. Edvard was
the one that painted, 'The Scream of Nature'.

One evening, I was walking along a
path, the city was on one side and the
fjord below. I felt tired and ill. I stopped
and looked out over the fjord the sun
was setting, and the clouds turning
blood red. I sensed a scream passing
through nature; it seemed to me that
I heard the scream. I painted this picture,
painted the clouds as actual blood.

The subjects that you need to take in college and university is
Art History, as well as the techniques. Art School can help
you with all of that.

DO YOU WANT TO BECOME A FAMOUS ARTIST?
The first thing you need to do to become famous
is to be an artist. How? YOU MAKE ART. The best
place to start creating is in a sketchbook.
Be willing to display your artwork anywhere. If you 're
family and friends think your artwork is good, market
your artwork. Someday you might be as famous as
Pablo Picasso!

To me, Art isn't hard. It's not like studying for a test.
Painting is like being in a whole new world.
You can have fun with it. Sometimes when you want
to market your artwork you need peace and quiet.

R.E. Reflection

In Religious Education, I learnt a lot about Francis of Assisi.
I know.......
*He's real name is Giovanni Francesco. His mother named him 'Giovanni' but his father didn't like the name. So he called him Francesco (Francis).
*Back when Francis was alive people teased him because he didn't have a wife and kids.
*Animals obeyed him.          *He cared about the environment
*He received the stigmata, making the first person.
*He died in a church while listening to a Psalm.
What I like about Francis of Assisi is that he cares for the environment. I respect him for that

Maths Reflection

In Maths I enjoyed learning the Units of Measurement. I know that 1 litre = 100000 millilitres and I know how to order capacities in litres and millilitres, for example......
5mL    250mL     0.75L     1L     1.5L     1250mL     50L

Piha Mill Camp

Three days in Piha Mill Camp were the best. It was like being in Heaven. The only thing you can hear is birds, the swaying of trees and hear people whispering saying ‘Oh! Let’s prank him/her’. I was never homesick because I had my little sister with me.

I like the way we all came together in the Lounge Room. We reflected and talked about things that happened at camp. If we can have the confidence to talk about how we felt, then we can have the confidence to show-off our talent, not hide it.

What really made me burst out laughing was watching the Fashion show. It was like watching ‘America’s Funniest Home Videos’.

My Reflection

In Week 2, we had asttle tests. There was Star Test, Reading, Maths and Writing. The Reading test was hard, especially question 2 and the last 2 pages of the test. The Maths test was easy except for questions that included decimals and percentage. I’ve made some progress but I’m not happy with it.

Harry Styles from One Direction

Harry Edward Styles is a singer from a boy band called ‘One Direction’. He is the youngest member in the group. Before One Direction, he used to be in a band called ‘White Eskimo’ and was the lead singer.

Harry was born 1 February 1994 and is from Holmes Chapel, Cheshire, England. His parents Anne Cox and Des Styles separated when Harry was 7 years old. After the divorce, Harry’s mother later got remarried to Robin Twist and so Harry, his sister, Gemma, and his mum moved out.

Growing up, Harry went to Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School. At school, Harry Styles, Haydn Morris, Nick Clough, Will Sweeny formed a group called ‘White Eskimo’. Haydn was the lead guitarist, Nick was the bass guitarist and drummer was Will. They came together to compete in the Battle of the Bands. They won the competition, and it helped Harry understand that he loved performing in front of people.

He tried to audition on X Factor in 2010. Harry sang ‘Isn’t she lovely’ by Stevie Wonder, Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger said “Yes!” but, Louis Walsh disagreed. At bootcamp, he sang ‘Stop crying your heart out’ before being rejected and put into a group called ‘One Direction’ with Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson. Harry was the one who came up with the band’s name. One Direction came third in The X Factor and went to sign a two million deal with Simon Cowell, releasing a lot of No.1 singles in the United Kingdom, including ‘What makes you beautiful’ and ‘Gotta be you’.

I think Harry is a nice person, it must’ve been hard to be separated from his family because now that he’s famous, he can’t see them a lot. When I heard that he got rejected, I thought he was going to be eliminated but instead he was put into a band because the judges didn’t want him to go.

LOST!!!

Paul looked straight ahead.  Not knowing which way to go, he stopped to think. He began to tremble with fear.  He looked at his watch and realised it was going to be dark very soon.

Still standing there, Paul reached into his pocket and found a map. So, he walked slowly into the forest, making sure he was going in the right direction.

The whooshing sound of trees, and the howling from an owl made Paul scared. The sun started to fade away, but Paul was still in the forest. Suddenly the day became night. Paul couldn’t see. He froze. Whoosh.....WHOOSH. The sound of the trees was really loud. Now Paul was very scared.

After standing there for a long time, Paul tried to look around using his hands as his eyes but it didn’t work. He tried to find light but their was nothing. “I give up!” said Paul, he sat on the bushy ground and looked up into the night sky and saw the stars shining so bright. He put his head down and fell asleep.

“Paul, Paul.....Where are you!!!!” said a voice. Paul was still fast asleep. “PAULL!!” Paul woke up. “Hello!” said Paul, “Paul, it’s your Grandpa!!” Paul saw his grandpa holding a torch and a blanket. “Grandpa!!” yelled Paul. He’s saved. Paul’s grandpa wrapped the blanket around him real tight to make sure he was warm and took Paul to his house.

Breaking News

In The Jordan River a man named Jesus was baptized by his cousin John The Baptist. While he was praying, the clouds opened, and a white dove came down. Suddenly a voice from above said, “You are my own son, I am pleased with you”. At once Jesus began his ministry in the desert. He stayed in the desert for forty days and was tempted by Satan, during this time he did not eat anything.

What I learnt in Maths

I learnt how to use the place value strategy to work out a multiplication problem.
Example:
22x9=?
Half of 22 is 11 so 11x9=99. 99x2=198

Chapter 4 page 14&15, talks about Ginetta and her jobs. Her first underground job was in a city hall. During the next two and a half years, Ginetta was a researcher, a spy, a courier, a secretary for the Air Force, a cleaning lady, and a smuggler.
The truth was hard, in the war years. The newspapers were full of propaganda, but it didn’t report the truth.
One day Ginetta carried a cardboard suitcase which was filled with secret newspapers. As Ginetta stopped on a tram, her suitcase hinges fell apart and the newspapers flew out everywhere.
Ginetta hurried to pick it up and walked for miles to her flat.
Ginetta  wore many disguises. She dressed as a cleaning lady. Ginetta was sent to the Swiss border to pick up a knapsack. She had to do take it to her friend. When Ginetta returned, the central train station was bombed. As she walked, two officials were checking passengers bags for contraband. Ginetta tried to walk through. Ginetta reached for her knapsack and went to meet Nino who took her knapsack to the bank. “The knapsack was full of money to help families and prisoners.”

*During the next two and a half years , she was a researcher, a spy, a courier, a secretary for the Air Force, a cleaning lady and a smuggler. Page:14

^I chose this sentence because it tells us how longs it has been since her parents were taken and her past jobs.

*They clipped and gathered information for secret newspapers, then risked carrying them to distant towns, even though the penalty for being caught was death . page:14

^I chose this sentence because it shows that this job is important for Ginetta and that she would risk her life for this job

*When Ginetta finally stepped off the train , hoisting her heavy load , a german soldier reached for her suitcase “Signorina,” he said , “may I help you?” Ginettas legs turned to jelly.

^I chose this because it tells us Ginetta was nervous.

What I learnt

This week in Maths I learnt how to jump through a tidy number line to solve a problem e.g.
49+?=94
49+1=50+40=90+4=94
1+40+4=45
How do I know if my answer is right.
49+45=94 (9+5=14, 40+40=80+14=94)

Playing Basketball

“DON’T STOP DRIBBLING KEEP GOING” yelled Coach Bruce. The white team were in the lead. There were just a few cones left that weren’t flipped. One more left and..........THE WHITES WIN!!

We were just in our classroom doing what we normally do on a Monday morning when Miss Bell, the secretary, told us if we were ready. I was wondering, what we were suppose to get ready for. Oh, we were having Basketball. Finally I get to know what a real game of Basketball is all about.

First things first, he told us how to dribble the ball. You can’t hit the ball on your palm because the ball won’t bounce back and, you can not bend forward or else you’ll damage your back and put a lot a weight on your thighs.

Next, we played a very hard game. We got into groups of five, I was in the White team. There were cones spread everywhere. There was green, white, red, and blue cones. The aim of the game was to flip over your team’s cone and dribble the ball at the same time. It looked hard but really, it was easy. We had one more round and then we left.

Basketball was really interesting, I learnt that if you show respect to others, you will get respect too.
